Frequently Asked Questions and Their Answers

CoachHorse is open year round for individual sessions.  Scheduling is done by calling our office at 920.980.5326. We also recommend that you check our website for scheduled events and closure dates to assist you in your scheduling plans.

Do I or my child have to have horse experience and know how to ride?
No horse experience is required. The main goal of CoachHorse is not to produce "accomplished" riders, but rather, confident, competent, and caring individuals. While riding can be a component of the therapy process toward these goals, at no time is riding the main focus. At the facilitator's discretion or the individual's wishes, the individual may take part in any number of activities during their session such as feeding the horses, taking a walk, playing with Milo the Golden Retriever, or simply sitting and watching the horses.

What if I am afraid of the horses?
That's ok; fear is a natural heightened feeling. Horses are large and powerful and can be intimidating to some individuals. Working with a horse creates a natural opportunity to overcome fear and self-doubt and develop confidence. Working with a horse, regardless of fear, provides great metaphors when looking at other intimidating or challenging situations in life.

Where do I park when I arrive at CoachHorse?
Please drive slowly up the 1000 foot driveway and park near the barn.

How can I learn more about Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy or Learning?
Are you curious about Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy or Learning and how horses naturally lend themselves in teaching and showing humans how to communicate more effectively and build healthy relationships?   By working with horses, an environment is created that teaches humans how to know themselves better. Through increased self-awareness, focus, confidence, intention, emotional congruency, and other aspects of non-verbal communication  the horse teaches humans new ways of looking at relationships.  For more information, join us for a short introductory demonstration of this efficient creative form of psychotherapy or learning.

Each demo starts with introductions followed by a short film on Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy followed by a small activity working with our four-legged friends to give you an opportunity to taste the EAP experience.

How often can I schedule individual learning sessions at CoachHorse?
As often as is necessary, as we feel attending consistently over a period of time is more effective than a single interaction.

What if I need to cancel a learning session or a workshop?
We recommend a courtesy call at least 24 hours in advance for individual sessions and at least 7 days in advance for workshops. If an unexpected scheduling change does occur at the last minute, please call the office as soon as possible.
